There are five major religions in the world. They are Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, and New Age. People believing this five different belief have their own lifestyle, which have led to their belongings to their own group. They live and spend most time with the people with same belief. They have the tendency of feeling secluded from the community because of the different beliefs. This essay will discuss three common reasons why people with different beliefs will feel secluded from the community: different rules of the religions, the different way they see the world, and the different god they worship.
Different religions have different rules, which is the one of the main reason to separate different groups. Something in one religion is allowed to happening, but in other religion, it is forbidden. For example, People believe in Islam and they are not allowed to eat pork, smoke, and drink beer. While people believe in Christianity, they are not forbidden to that. Therefore, in this case, it is impossible for them to be in the same community because if a Muslim lives in a place where all the people make pork foods, he or she will feel uncomfortable and hard to find the sense of belongings. And if he or she try to fit in the community and eat pork, they will feel guilty and be regarded as disrespectful to their god.
Different religions will influence their believers to form different world views. People who have different conceptions of the world will be interested in different things, which lead to the different lifestyle. As a matter of fact, in daily life, people prefer to live with people with similar lifestyle, if there are too much distinctions, they will feel strange and hard to get alone with. For instance, some hardcore Muslim believes in asceticism. They encourage people to restrict themselves having sex. On the contrary, Christian believes that sex is God’s idea. He made it not only efficient for making babies, but pleasurable and deeply satisfying. He designed men’s and women’s body parts to complement each other. He created hormones to make everything work right and make us want to be sexual. Consequently, these two types of believer will grow apart in their life.
Different god also somewhat led them to exclude from different communities. Because of the difference of their god, there are some opinion gaps between them. Christians believe in a loving God who has revealed himself and can be known in a personal way, in this life. With Jesus Christ, the person’s focus is not on religious rituals or performing good works, but on enjoying a relationship with God and growing to know him better. Buddhists worship do not worship any gods or God. People outside of Buddhism often think that Buddhists worship the Buddha. However, the Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) never claimed to be divine, but rather he is viewed by Buddhists as having attained what they are also striving to attain, which is spiritual enlightenment and, with it, freedom from the continuous cycle of life and death. Muslims believe there is the one almighty God, named Allah, who is infinitely superior to and transcendent from humankind. Allah is viewed as the creator of the universe and the source of all good and all evil. Everything that happens is Allah’s will. He is a powerful and strict judge, who will be merciful toward followers depending on the sufficiency of their life’s good works and religious devotion. A follower’s relationship with Allah is as a servant to Allah. New Age followers promote the development of the person’s own power or divinity. When referring to God, a follower of New Age is not talking about a transcendent, personal God who created the universe, but is referring to a higher consciousness within themselves. A person in New Age would see themselves as God, the cosmos, the universe. In fact, everything that the person sees, hears, feels or imagines is to be considered divine. Hindus worship one being of ultimate oneness (Brahman) through infinite representations of gods and goddesses. These various manifestations of gods and goddesses become incarnate within idols, temples, gurus, rivers, animals, etc. All in all, New Age teaches that everyone should come to center on a cosmic consciousness, but it would require Islam to give up their one God, Hinduism to give up their numerous gods, and Buddhism to establish that there is a God. And all of these cause them feeling secluded from the different groups.
In conclusion, people feel secluded from the community because of different beliefs for different reasons. They may the rules of different religion make it impossible to feel comfortable from the different community, and the different world view between them separates them. Or the different god they worship bring them opinion gaps.
