The 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1967, ensures that the President can continue to serve out their full term if they are unable to do so due to incapacitation such as dementia or mental instability.
A President who is unable to discharge their duties can be removed from office by Congress through a joint resolution.
